Scholarships
UTRID provides scholarship assistance to support Utah interpreters with certification, professional development, and educational opportunities.
Supporting Professional Development
The UTRID Board has approved up to $5,000 in scholarship funds each fiscal year to support eligible members with professional development and certification-related expenses.
Who Can Apply?
UTRID scholarships are available to applicants who meet the following requirements:
- Be a member in good standing with UTRID and RID.
- Be a resident of the State of Utah.
- Submit an application by June 1 of the current fiscal year.
- Be eligible to receive a UTRID scholarship once per fiscal year, which runs from July 1 through June 30.
$1–$500
Applicants may request between $1 and $500 for an eligible expense or professional development opportunity.

Applications must be submitted by June 1 of the current UTRID fiscal year.
What Can Scholarship Funds Support?
Scholarship funds may be requested for certification-related expenses and professional development activities, including:
- RID Knowledge Based Tests
- RID Performance Tests
- Conference fees
- Workshop fees
- Other professional development activities
Important Scholarship Requirements
Please review these requirements before starting your application.
- You must be a member in good standing with both UTRID and RID.
- You must be a Utah resident.
- Applications are due by June 1 of the current fiscal year.
- You may receive a UTRID scholarship once per fiscal year (July 1–June 30).
- Depending on the type of scholarship requested, recipients may be asked to provide a service to UTRID in exchange for the award.
Examples of recipient service: A recipient who receives funding to attend a conference may be asked to share their experience with the UTRID community through a workshop, newsletter article, or another contribution.
What You’ll Need to Provide
The application is completed through Google Forms. Having the following information ready will make the process easier:
- Your name and contact information
- Your current interpreting certifications
- Your RID and UTRID membership status
- The amount of funding you’re requesting
- What you’re requesting the funds for
- A description of how the funds will benefit you as an interpreter
Your benefit statement: You may provide a written response of 250 words or less or an ASL video of 5 minutes or less describing how the requested funds will benefit you as an interpreter. If submitting a video, you will provide an accessible link through the application.
